Laser therapy is new technology that uses light therapy, or photobiostimulation,
to accelerate the wound healing process and reduce pain and inflammation
caused by common ailments such as osteoarthritis, muscular pain,
bone fractures, dermatologic conditions, ear infections, bite wounds,
and a host of other painful conditions. The interaction of light
and tissue stimulates the cells’ mitochondria to increase
production of enzymes needed for healing, stimulate cell growth,
and increase blood flow to the area.
Is laser therapy right
for your pet?
If your pet is recovering from trauma or surgery, healing from
wounds or simply getting older, laser therapy can provide pain
relief. This
is a valuable treatment option if your pet cannot tolerate nonsteroidal
medication or other pain relievers.
What should I expect after laser therapy?
There are no known side effects from laser therapy as the treatment
is noninvasive. Results vary but many pets get pain relief
after only a few treatments. As the treatment is administered,
many pets will relax and enjoy the almost immediate relief of pain
and the wonderful massage ball. Some dogs may actually fall
asleep during the treatment!
